308 nm Excimer Treatment for Vitiligo in Amman
Targeted UVB Phototherapy for Localized Vitiligo, Selected Psoriasis Plaques and Selected Alopecia Areata
EXCIMER IS A TREATMENT TOOL - NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR DIAGNOSIS.
The 308 nm excimer delivers targeted UVB phototherapy directly to selected affected patches while limiting unnecessary exposure of surrounding uninvolved skin.
At Nova Derma, we use the Kernel 308 nm Excimer as part of a dermatologist-led treatment plan. The diagnosis, location, extent and activity of the condition determine whether targeted treatment is appropriate.
- Localized vitiligo
- Selected localized or persistent psoriasis plaques
- Selected localized alopecia areata as an adjunct to medical treatment
Conditions We May Treat With 308 nm Excimer
308 nm Excimer for Localized Vitiligo
Vitiligo is the main focus of this targeted-treatment page. In appropriately selected localized patches, 308 nm excimer may be used to encourage repigmentation as part of an individualized vitiligo plan.
Response varies by body site and disease characteristics. Facial areas may respond better than fingers, hands and feet, and no individual result can be guaranteed.
308 nm Excimer for Localized Psoriasis
For a limited number of persistent psoriasis plaques, targeted 308 nm UVB can be directed to affected skin while minimizing exposure of surrounding normal skin.
Excimer is not intended to replace systemic or broader treatment when psoriasis is widespread, severe or significantly affecting quality of life.
308 nm Excimer for Selected Alopecia Areata
Excimer may be considered as an adjunct for selected localized alopecia areata patches, usually alongside condition-specific medical treatment.
The response in alopecia areata is less predictable than in vitiligo or localized psoriasis, so patient selection and follow-up are particularly important.

How Targeted 308 nm Treatment Works
The Kernel 308 nm Excimer directs UVB light at selected affected patches. Unlike whole-body phototherapy, it treats limited areas rather than exposing large areas of uninvolved skin.
This makes targeted treatment particularly useful when the condition is localized enough for individual patches to be treated directly.
What Happens During Treatment?
The handpiece is directed to the selected treatment areas. Sessions can be relatively brief when only small or limited patches are involved.
The treatment dose is adjusted according to the diagnosis, body area, skin response and previous-session reaction.
What Can Happen After a Session?
- Temporary redness
- Mild warmth or itching
- Temporary darkening or increased pigmentation of treated skin
- Occasionally a stronger reaction such as blistering if the skin response is excessive
The skin response is reviewed and used to guide subsequent treatment.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
There is no fixed number of sessions. The course depends on the diagnosis, location, size of the treated areas, disease activity and individual response.
Targeted phototherapy usually requires a course of repeated treatments rather than a single session, and progress is judged over time rather than after one visit.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
308 nm excimer is most useful when the condition is localized and suitable for targeted phototherapy. Treatment may need to be modified or postponed if there is:
- Significant irritation or blistering in the treatment area
- Sunburn
- Active skin infection
- A photosensitivity disorder
- Medication that significantly increases photosensitivity
- A previous excessive reaction to phototherapy
Is Excimer the Same as Whole-Body Phototherapy?
No. Excimer is targeted to selected patches. Whole-body or cabinet phototherapy treats a much larger skin surface and may be more appropriate when disease is widespread.
Nova Derma's 308 nm excimer should therefore be presented as a localized treatment option, not as whole-body phototherapy.
308 nm Excimer FAQ
Is there a laser treatment for vitiligo?
Targeted 308 nm excimer is one treatment option for selected localized vitiligo. Suitability depends on the diagnosis, body site, extent and disease activity.
Can excimer cure vitiligo permanently?
No permanent cure should be promised. Excimer may help repigmentation in selected patches, but response varies and new vitiligo patches can still appear.
Can excimer treat psoriasis?
Yes, it may be useful for selected localized or persistent plaques. It is not a substitute for broader treatment when psoriasis is widespread or severe.
Can excimer treat alopecia areata?
It may be considered in selected localized cases, usually as an adjunct to medical treatment. Response is variable.
Is treatment painful?
Treatment is generally well tolerated. Some patients feel mild warmth, and temporary redness or itching can occur afterward.
Can excimer be combined with other treatment?
Yes. Depending on the diagnosis, targeted phototherapy may be used alongside topical or other medical treatment rather than as the only therapy.
Is 308 nm Excimer Appropriate for Your Condition?
If you have localized vitiligo, limited psoriasis or selected localized alopecia areata, dermatologist assessment can determine whether targeted 308 nm phototherapy fits the diagnosis and treatment goal.
